Cast Bronze, 3D Printed PLA Pattern
London

The Lost PLA Stool is an experimental stool that uses 3D printing, Generative Design and Lost Wax Casting to create a functional object using the sprue system left over from casting as its structure.

Sprues are the channels through which material enters the mould and are typically discarded after casting. They consist of two separate flow systems; Runners allow liquid to enter the mould while Risers allow gases and excess liquid to escape.

The pattern (replica of object to be cast) was 3D printed and designed using generative design, an algorithm that mimics the way organisms evolve in nature.
